01 · Overview
During my studies at Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, I worked as a UX/UI Designer in collaboration with iZiViD. Together with a multidisciplinary team, we developed an AR-based, gamified video experience designed to help children and parents stay connected when living apart. The concept combines video communication with shared activities, parenting goals and playful AR interactions to create meaningful experiences across distance.
02 · The Challenge
Children and parents who live apart often experience limited interaction in their daily lives. Existing communication tools often lack engagement and fail to support meaningful shared experiences, making it difficult to maintain strong emotional connections over distance.
03 · Process
01
Structuring the project through sprint planning and Jira, while using the MoSCoW method to prioritize user needs, project goals and features.
02
Visualizing the user journey, parent–child interactions and functional requirements through storyboards, UML and use case diagrams.
03
Developing the experience from early Balsamiq concepts and wireframes to a detailed interactive high-fidelity prototype.
04
Evaluating and refining the design through usability testing, A/B testing and Nielsen’s heuristics.
04 · Visuals
Mapping the parent–child journey through hand-drawn AR storyboards.
Early lo-fi wireframes exploring navigation, parenting goals and game interactions in Balsamiq. My focus was the parent-facing system for planning and personalizing video sessions, from setting parenting goals to selecting activities for the child.
The final high-fidelity prototype brings together video communication, parenting goals and playful AR interactions into one connected experience.
05 · Reflection
This project strengthened my understanding of designing for emotional connection, not just functionality. Combining AR, video and gamification required balancing playful interactions with a clear purpose, while keeping the experience intuitive for both children and parents.
Working in a multidisciplinary team also reinforced the value of early alignment and shared understanding when translating ideas across design, development and business perspectives.
